Advanced Connection Detail

Connection engineering for non-standard load paths, complex geometry, and heavy member sizes. Our engineers design and detail connections with weld sizing, bolt group layouts, and clearances resolved before the connection package goes to the shop.

Every model ensures optimal weld placements, bolt-access clearances, and physical constructability.

Multi-Material Interface Resolution: Steel, mass timber, and concrete connections are designed and detailed in a single model. When connections span two fabrication shops, both sets of fabrication data are produced from the same geometry so the parts fit at the interface.
Erection Clearance: Connection layouts account for the physical space required by impact wrenches, tension-control guns, and safety tie-off points during erection. Access issues are identified and resolved in the model.
Fabrication Data: Every geometric component is embedded with rich fabrication data, including precise material grades, profiles, and lengths. This allows shops to automate CNC drilling, cutting, and coping operations to maximize raw material yield and reduce manual layout time.

Design Assist

We work with structural engineers and general contractors during preconstruction to identify and resolve connection and coordination issues before contract documents are finalized. Our team stays involved through design development, working alongside the EOR until connections are fully coordinated and the package is ready for stamping.

We collaborate with structural engineers and general contractors early in the design cycle. By building the model ahead of time, we catch design discrepancies and spatial clashes before the contract drawings are finalized and issued for construction.

Preconstruction Coordination: We drive spatial coordination between structural steel, mass timber, concrete, and MEP trades early in the design phase. Catching and resolving structural interface conflicts in the model rather than the field saves significant construction time and prevents costly rework.
3D Model and Site Reviews: We can offer advanced 3D visualization of the structural model at every milestone as well as high-density LiDAR point cloud data directly into project meetings. This allows all stakeholders to virtually walk the site, review real-world as-built constraints, and evaluate complex load paths simultaneously.
Remote and On-Site Availability: Our project managers and connection engineers are based across North America and available for in-person meetings. Model review and coordination meetings also run remotely through Trimble Connect, Microsoft Teams and other collaboration platforms.

Liability Management & Code Compliance: We deliver fully engineered connection packages backed by sealed calculations and stamped drawings adhering strictly to AISC, CISC, and local seismic requirements. This manages design liability cleanly while ensuring swift, smooth approval from the Engineer of Record (EOR).
Material Optimization: Performing engineering calculations directly alongside the 3D detailing process allows us to optimize plate thicknesses, bolt groupings, and weld sizes. This targeted engineering eliminates structural oversizing and reduces raw material waste.
