Steel Detailing

We produce the 3D models, shop drawings, and CNC data that steel fabricators need to cut, drill, weld, and erect structural steel. Every project gets a fully constructible Tekla model, ensuring each drawing, BOM, and CNC file is extracted from that single source. We support projects across industrial, commercial, infrastructure, bridges, data centres, mining, and residential construction. Our team includes former welders, ironworkers, structural engineers, and shop managers — people who have stood on the fabrication floor and on the iron.

3D Modelling & Shop Drawings

FABRICATION DELIVERABLES

3D Modelling & Shop Drawings

Delivering fully constructible Tekla models alongside complete drawing packages—including general arrangements, assemblies, single-part details, and bills of materials. Every deliverable is extracted directly from a single, coordinated master model to guarantee absolute precision on the shop floor.

We drive communication and coordination through LOD 400 models synchronized to our clients via Trimble Connect. The model serves as a live technical asset, and we ensure all shop and field drawings update dynamically as the model evolves. Before any steel is released for fabrication, the model is ready to go through clash detection against coordinated trade models and a constructability review to confirm that what we've detailed can actually be built, shipped, and erected in the sequence the project requires.

What we model

  • Primary structural systems: columns, beams, braces, trusses, and girders built for complex load paths.
  • Secondary framing and infill steel: Detailing miscellaneous structural components.
  • Connection Design: Every bolt, weld, and fitting modelled to exact standards.
  • Shop-Ready Assemblies: Assembly and single-part breakdowns organized for your fabrication sequence.

What we draw

  • Erection Logistics: General arrangement (GA) and erection packages designed for on-site efficiency.
  • Production Documentation: Assembly and single-part shop drawings.
  • Foundation Alignment: Anchor bolt and embed plans to ensure site readiness.
  • Procurement Data: Bills of Materials for accurate material purchasing and tracking.
Fabrication Data & CNC

AUTOMATED PRODUCTION

Fabrication Data & CNC

The ROI on shop automation is dictated by the data feeding it. We can calibrate our CAD and CAM data directly from Tekla Structures to drive your specific machinery. From traditional beam lines to advanced robotic welding systems, we configure the machine-ready output to match your shop’s exact processing parameters, ensuring your floor operates at maximum throughput.

Machine-Ready Deliverables

  • Direct-to-Machine Output (CNC/NC): Precision DSTV (.nc1) and DXF files calibrated for automated sawing, coping, drilling, and nesting.
  • Advanced Plate & Angle Processing: Dedicated data formatting, ensuring seamless punching, shearing, and burning cycles.
  • Robotic Fabrication & CAM: Full integration for multi-axis profiling and automated assembly, outputting CAM-compatible data for systems including AGT Robotics (BeamMaster), Zeman (SBA), PythonX, Peddinghaus, and Bend-Tech.
  • Automated Layout & Scribing: Rules-based machining for piece marking, custom scribe conventions, weld locations, and centre-of-gravity plotting—eliminating manual layout on the shop floor.
  • MIS & Production Integration: Data extraction engineered to plug directly into Tekla PowerFab (FabSuite), STRUMIS, and FabTrol for real-time inventory and procurement tracking.
Miscellaneous Metals

SECONDARY STRUCTURES

Miscellaneous Metals

Miscellaneous steel detailing develops secondary steel components—stairs, railings, ladders, platforms—within the Tekla model, generating precise shop and erection drawings directly from the coordinated 3D model for accurate fabrication and installation.

Stairs, Handrails & Guardrails

Multi-flight egress stairs, feature staircases, and industrial guardrails. We calculate precise riser-to-tread geometry and handrail clearance offsets to ensure compliance with local building codes.

Industrial Access & Equipment Supports

Platforms, catwalks, access ladders, and heavy equipment racks. Every detail is modelled directly against the primary structural environment and checked for clearance against the primary structural model.

Secondary & Ancillary Steel

Bollards, screen walls, louver supports, and generator frames.

Concrete Embed & Rebar Detailing

Multi-Material Integration

Concrete Embed & Rebar Detailing

Managing the connection between structural steel embeds and reinforced concrete requires perfect spatial alignment. For projects featuring both materials, we detail the structural steel, rebar modelling, bending schedules, and placement drawings out of the same model.

Running both trades out of a single environment completely eliminates the data silos that cause site mismatches. The physical relationship between heavy steel embeds, anchor assemblies, and dense rebar cages is worked out digitally, planned well ahead of the pour.

  • Unified Documentation: Get synchronized shop drawings, accurate bar bending schedules (BBS), and clear field placement layouts straight from one master model.
  • Embed & Cage Alignment: Pre-construction clash detection catches interferences between steel anchorages and rebar configurations early, eliminating manual field modifications and costly delays.
Quality Assurance

CONSTRUCTABILITY REVIEW

Quality Assurance

All models and drawings go through a multi-stage checking process before release. Connections are verified against the contract design drawings, shop drawings are checked against the 3D model, and revisions are tracked through every affected sheet. The goal is straightforward: the data that reaches the shop and the field should be consistent, current, and correct.

Connection Verification

Connections are checked against the contract design drawings and the structural engineer's design intent. Beyond verifying that the connection meets the design loads, we check bolt access, wrench clearance, and weld access for the specific fabrication and erection conditions on the project.

Model-to-Drawing Cross-Checks

Shop drawings are checked against the 3D model to confirm that piece marks, dimensions, material callouts, and quantities match.

Revision Management

Design changes are incorporated into the model and tracked through to all affected shop and erection drawings. Revised sheets are identified, reissued, and logged so the shop and field are always working from current information.

RFI Tracking

Open questions on design documents are logged, issued as RFIs, and tracked through to response. RFI responses are incorporated into the model and drawings as they come back, and the RFI log is maintained for the duration of the project.

Industry Experience

Market Capabilities

Industry Experience

Our team brings extensive steel detailing experience across commercial and industrial projects, from office buildings, retail developments, and mixed-use structures to warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and heavy industrial plants.

Commercial & Institutional

Office towers, mixed-use developments, hospitals, courthouses, and university buildings. These projects typically involve architecturally exposed structural steel, tight coordination with curtain wall and cladding trades, and phased delivery schedules tied to multi-trade sequencing.

Data Centres

Enterprise and colocation facilities. Data centre projects are usually fast-tracked with repetitive structural bays, heavy equipment loading, and significant secondary steel scope including cable tray supports, raised floor framing, and equipment support frames. Coordination with mechanical and electrical trades is ongoing throughout detailing.

Infrastructure & Bridges

Pedestrian and highway bridges, transit stations, and construction trestles. Bridge detailing involves complex member geometry, cambered and curved profiles, and public-sector documentation and quality requirements. Component tracking and material traceability are typically part of the deliverable.

Industrial & Mining

Process facilities, manufacturing plants, conveyors, chutes, and heavy equipment support frames. Industrial projects often involve irregular geometry, heavy plate work, and coordination with mechanical equipment vendors for anchor bolt patterns and clearance requirements.

Pre-Engineered & Residential

Multi-family steel framing and custom pre-engineered building systems. Detailing is coordinated with the fabricator's standard connection library, shipping constraints, and erection sequence.
